"We hope when people think of Morehead State, they think of a championship program that's the absolute best-dressers in America." - Coach Tom Hodges
As a first year head coach, Tom Hodges was eager to bring publicity to a team that was attracting less than 1,000 fans a game. When brainstorming gimics to help garner media attention, he decided it would be best to let his clothes do the talking. Or in this case, the yelling. The typically conservative dresser took a major fashion risk and now the Morehead State women's basketball team is reaping the rewards.
Hodges had contacted LoudMouth Golf to assist with his sideline style makeover. His inspiration was PGA golfer, John Daly, who is notorious for wearing the brand's wild and crazy patterned pants on the fairway. When Hodges took the court in his navy, yellow and white argyle LoudMouth suit for the first time, Morehead State became a major topic of discussion, just as he had hoped for.
The one person who hasn't hopped on Hodges' LoudMouth bandwagon just yet? That would be his wife. But if fashion is the key to success for the Morehead State program, she'll probably come around.
This past weekend, ESPN's College GameDay profiled Coach Hodges and took a closer look at his flashy fashions. Check it out:
