DICK'S SPORTING GOODS OPENS NHL POP-UP SHOP

Dick's Sporting Goods has announced the opening of a 5,000 square foot pop-up shop in Pittsburgh's Strip District. The temporary store is exclusively dedicated to the official merchandise of the 2011 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic, which is scheduled to take place between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals on January 1st at Heinz Field.

As the official retailer of 2011 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic, the Dick's Sporting Goods pop-up store will feature a large assortment of event merchandise, including replica jerseys, tees, fleece, hats, gift items as well as NHL Winter Classic-branded Reebok footwear for both the Penguins and Capitals.

 

The temporary location will be open through December 31, 2010, at which point Dick's will relocate their retail operations to an 800 square foot mobile store location at the NHL Spectator Plaza next to Heinz Field.

THE TEVA STILETTO: HAUTE OR NOT?

Okay, A Glam Slam will admit it. Sometimes fashion and sports really do not mix. In this case they have clashed in a very bad way, resulting in this: The Teva Stiletto. The shoe was born out of an unlikely collaboration between Grey Ant, NY-based clothing company, and Teva, a company known for their outdoor footwear.

The Grey Ant x Teva Stiletto by New High (M)art is not exactly the most stylish or practical footwear, unless you happen to be an outdoor sports enthusiast who loves to hit the trails in your high heels. The shoes are available in two styles; "Worlds Unite," a black and white mix with velcro closure and "Natural," a tan shoe with buckle closure. For the "full effect" it is suggested that you pair these stilettos with "outdoorsy socks." And fashionistas everywhere are now cringing.

Yet it doesn't stop there. The product description also features a disclaimer that reads: "Not recommended for actual hiking, gardening, mountain climbing, or Phish concerts." Huh? But the craziest part of all is the price tag: a whopping $330.

So do we even have to ask? In the "Haute or Not" debate, "Not" has got to win this one by a landslide. See for yourself:

TOM BRADY TO ENDORSE UGG BOOTS

Apparently for Tom Brady, receiving lots of slack for his Justin Beiber shag cut wasn't enough. Now the New England Patriots quarterback will be endorsing UGGs, the female-focused Australian brand best known for their sheepskin boots. Brady has always been a man of style but with this new fashion addition, his overall look is beginning to resemble that of a teenage girl rather than a manly NFL superstar.

UGG Chairman and CEO Angel Martinez said, "He [Brady] embodies the stylish casual attitude that is at the foundation of every product we make, and is as much a style icon off the field as he is a playmaker on it."

Brady had this to say: "I have worn and loved the UGG brand for a long time. This collaboration gives me an opportunity to work with a leading global brand with a great history and a true vision for the future of its men’s collection. It’s an exciting time to be part of the UGG Australia team."

It's interesting to hear that Brady is such a fan, considering we have yet to see him sporting the comfy boots. But in addition to being the face (and feet) of the UGG Brand, Tom will also consult on "product inspiration" for future collections.

The next game for the 9-2 Patriots will be against the 9-2 Jets in a much anticipated Monday Night Football match-up. If Brady and the Pats are hoping to intimidate their opponents, this certainly isn't helping. You can bet that Rex and the Gang Green guys will have a field day with this one.

The holiday season is upon us and for those of you struggling to find the perfect gift for the Chicago Bears fan in your life, we've got you covered. Introducing: "Da' Ditka Sweater Vest."

OHCOCINCO TAKES IT ALL OFF FOR PETA

Chad Ochocinco does not shy away from media attention. But the latest Ocho news has nothing to do with his play on the field, recent engagement or reality endeavors. Instead, it's his bare body that's garnering a lot of attention.

The Cincinnati Bengals' wide receiver is no stranger to fashion. Any of his twitter followers would know he's a man of style who can't resist a good buy from luxury designers like Christian Louboutin, Louis Vuitton and Gucci. But one thing you wont find in Ocho's closet: Fur.

The avid "animal lover" is the lastest in a string of athletes to strip down in the name of charity (Michael Strahan, Gilbert Arenas and Amar’e Stoudemire have all done so in the past). The NFL star recently posed for animal rights activist organization, PETA. The ad campaign, "Ink not Mink" discourages the use animal fur for fashion.

LOOK OUT FOR LEBRON'S NEW LOGO

LeBron James cannot keep out of the headlines and this time, it's in the form of fashion. During a Thanksgiving interview with Matt Lauer, James wore a black and gray Nike polo that created a lot of buzz because the shirt debuted his new logo. The change was bound to happen considering LBJ's old logo (seen below) incorporated the number "23." 

 

CNBC's Darren Rovell took to twitter to share this statement from Nike: "In his interview with NBC airing November 25th, LeBron is wearing a polo (shirt) featuring his new logo. We are really pleased that it incorporates LeBron's initials "L" and "J" and retains the crown from his previous iconic logo. The new logo will appear on LeBron's product in 2011 and on quick strike product."

There's no number included this time, so this logo should stick for awhile. What do you think?

SERENA WILLIAMS' ADDS STYLE TO INJURY

Serena Williams recently announced her withdrawl from the 2011 Australian Open, due to a foot injury she sustained shortly after Wimbledon. Tennis might not be in the near future, but that hasn't stopped Serena from appearing at a variety of other sporting events. And she's been hitting the town making an unexpected fashion statement: a bedazzled foot cast.

Sitting courtside at Miami Heat/Phoenix Suns game and on the "Orange Carpet" at the Miami Dolphin's Thursday night game against the Chicago Bears, Williams' showed off her newest fashion accessory. The black and burnt orange rhinestone embellished cast has received a lot of buzz. Leave it to Serena to make a foot injury stylish.

VAN HEUSEN EXPANDS SPONSORSHIP DEAL WITH NFL

Phillips-Van Heusen, one of the world’s largest apparel companies, has sponsored the Pro Football Hall of Fame for the past two years. To increase their current involvement with the NFL, the company has entered into a sponsorship agreement for their Van Heusen brand that will expand their role from the Pro Football Hall of Fame onto the field. 

Phillips-Van Heusen will launch an integrated marketing campaign over this Thanksgiving weekend, “timed to the traditional kick-off of the holiday shopping season.” The campaign will center on the company’s Van Heusen Pro Football Hall of Fame Fan’s Choice program. Now in its second year, the Fan’s Choice is a dedicated forum that serves to educate and empower fans to debate, discuss and cast their ballot for who they believe should be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2011. The program features spokesperson Steve Young.

 

The new campaign will also be featured across multiple platforms including in-game network broadcast, in stadium and via print, online and outdoor media. A look at the NFL Thanksgiving week activation includes: In-game sponsor enhancements on CBS and FOX during Thanksgiving game coverage; integration with NFL Network during their Sunday NFL GameDay Morning pregame show; a branded segment within the WPIX-TV pre-game show on Thanksgiving; and ESPN.com home page takeover on Saturday, November 27th.

In conjunction with the Thanksgiving weekend activation and as part of Phillips-Van Heusen’s sponsorship agreement with the New York Giants which began in 2010, the Van Heusen brand will also sponsor the game between the Giants and the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, November 28th.

KOBE WILL PLAY "GRINCH" TO LEBRON'S CHRISTMAS

On Christmas Day, millions will watch as the Los Angeles Lakers take on the Miami Heat during the NBA's holiday game tradition. But despite the fact that LeBron and company will be coming to town, it is Kobe's kicks that will garner all of the attention.

The "Christmas" edition of the "Zoom Kobe VI" will debut on Bryant's feet during the game. And while this is not the first time Kobe has introduced new shoes on the holiday, it is the first time that they incorporate a Christmas theme, more specifically, "The Grinch."

 

Kobe Bryant has thrived in the role of NBA villian and this year he'll be setting out to ruin LeBron's Christmas with a big win. So there's no better character to emulate on-court than the iconic Dr. Seuss deviant. The Lime Green/Varsity Red colorway of the "Zoom Kobe VI" resemble The Grinch's green fur and the red Santa suit he wears as a disguise. 

From a style standpoint, they are definitely not the most attractive pair of shoes and they might force you to adjust the color on your TV set come gametime. Perhaps the biggest problem of all will be pairing them with the Lakers' purple and gold hues. Yikes.

KURT WARNER VS. RICK FOX: BATTLE FOR THE DANCING MVP

It's not often we get to see a Super Bowl MVP and an NBA champion face-off...on the dance floor. Though they were already out of contention for the mirror ball trophy, the most entertaining competition of the "Dancing With The Stars" finale took place between former Arizona Cardinals' quarterback, Kurt Warner, and former Los Angeles Lakers forward, Rick Fox.

Both guys had a successful stint on the show this season as they finished among the top seven contestants. However many fans still believed the champion sportsmen were sent home before their due time. So the guys came back to the dance floor but this time, they went head-to-head to see which athlete was a better dancer.

Following some comical trash-talking, Warner and Fox hit the dance floor together with a performance to "Eye of the Tiger." And what competition would be complete without team uniforms? Last night's fashions included a new, bedazzled spin on the Cardinals' and Lakers' team gear. The sports-themed attire included red and white costumes for Warner and his partner, Ana Trebunskaya, while Fox and his partner, Cheryl Burke, rocked ensembles in the Lakers' purple and gold hues.

 

Based on the season standings, Kurt had a 1-0 edge over Fox because he lasted a week longer in the competition. So did Rick even the score? We'll let you decide. Take a look:
