Female and male athletes alike are heavily involved in the fashion industry outside of their sport. They are the new faces of fashion and accessory lines because non-sports brands recognize their popularity and consumer appeal. With extensive fan bases, athletes are an ideal choice for helping fashion houses to increase their brand awareness. Not to mention, many sports stars already have an impeccable sense of style.
A
Glam Slam recently shared the news that menswear designer, Joseph Abboud,
signed a deal with the NY Giants for designer clothing. This deal was said to
be the largest between a menswear company and a pro football team. But
just when we thought the Giants would be the best-dressed athletes off the
field, the NY Yankees will be giving them some major competition.
DKNY
has signed a long-term sponsorship deal with the Bronx Bombers. The DKNY brand
is incredibly representative of NYC style. Designs are always stylish and
versatile to compliment the busy lifestyle of New Yorkers. So what better way
to honor the spirit of the city then to merge an iconic NYC fashion brand with the
reigning World Champions and baseball's most storied baseball franchise.
Similar to Abboud and the Giants, this partnership will allow DKNY access to the enormous NY Yankees' fan base. They will also sponsor the Dugout Lounge at Yankee Stadium, similar to Abboud's dedicated luxury suite at the new Giants Stadium.
According to WWD, "the company becomes the first fashion
brand to secure a permanent presence in the stadium, with an Outfield Bullpen
billboard of the logo, positioned prominently in right-centerfield." Fans
will see this billboard for the first time on April 13th, at the Yankees' home
opener.
And for once most Yankee fans probably won't mind seeing the boys
trade in their everyday pinstripes for some designer duds. Jeter, Mo and the guys
in DKNY suits? Yes, please.
