This year’s U.S. Open was as much of a fashion show as it was a tennis tournament, with competitors showcasing their tennis ability and their fashion sense. Even Vogue’s Anna Wintour took a break from NY Fashion Week to watch her favorite sport and cheer on her good friend, Roger Federer.
And Anna
should be proud, as this year’s players stepped up their game looking very
fashion-forward at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The tennis trophies have already been awarded,
but here’s a list of A Glam Slam’s top U.S. Open Fashion honors:
Best
Kicks: Melanie Oudin
U.S.
newcomer, 17-year-old Melanie Oudin, definitely won the hearts of the fans. While
her outfit was a bit boring, Oudin rode her way to the quarterfinals thanks to
her Adidas sneakers featuring the word “Believe." The bright pink and
yellow sneakers were a huge hit, so much so that traffic and sales to miadidas.com increased five-fold! Glam Gal “believes” she is going to be a real star.
Best Day to Night Look: Jelena Jankovic
Jelena Jankovic was truly a lady in red as she sported an amazing dress by Chinese brand, ANTA, that is tailored for a perfect fit on this tennis beauty. Throw on a pair of red soles and accessorize, and you can easily take this look from courtside to cocktails. Unfortunately, the line is only available in China and Serbia. But try this adorable alternative from Reebok.

Representation of a NYC Taxi Cab: Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic
While many fans (including Glam Gal) missed Nadal’s signature sleeveless tees at this year's U.S. Open, we loved his yellow and blue ensemble. This bold look from Nike was actually inspired by the streets of New York City and it's famous yellow taxi cabs. The energy of New York was also referenced as the design inspiration for his apparel.
Glam Gal noticed that another tennis star, Novak Djokovic, also rocked a bright yellow and black look. Though these competitors didn't take home the grand prize, both are winners in Glam Gal's book.
Best
Dressed Male: Roger Federer
Maybe he called Anna for some fashion advice because Roger Federer scored major points with his head-to-toe black and red Nike gear. Roger even had a special unveiling for his 2009 U.S. Open look, which included several bold red and black pieces. His polos are constructed of knit Nike Dri-FIT fabric and the buttons even feature Roger’s black RF monogram logo.
Best
Use of Color: Venus and Serena Williams
One of the hottest color combinations to hit the runways this season is hot pink and black. It was a real sister act as Venus sported a pink and black dress under her own label, EleVen. Serena hit the court in these hot hues as well, wearing the Sphere react Cool dress by Nike and the complementary headscarf.
Best
Dressed Female: Caroline Wozniacki
She might have fallen short in the finals, but Caroline Wozniacki took home the fashion title thanks to her chic, mauve tiered ruffle dress from Stella McCartney for Adidas. She is the exclusive representative for the brand. And it’s no surprise that Caroline takes top honors as she’s rumored to be a major fashionista off the court, who loves shopping in NYC’s Soho area. She is Glam Gal's kinda girl.
Best
Bling: Maria Sharapova
What girl doesn’t love great jewelry? Maria Sharapova’s lavender dress with neon yellow piping was a huge hit, but it’s definitely the lightning bolt earrings that make her a style winner. The sterling silver and diamond earrings were created by world-renowned architect and Tiffany designer, Frank Gehry, especially for Sharapova to wear at the U.S. Open.
Maria continues to takes her style sense off the court, designing her own collection for Cole Haan where she says her inspiration was "street style for girls around the world." The 19-piece collection includes items such as boots, flats and handbags.
What else does she ‘love’ this season? The New York Post recently shared Maria’s top 5 must-have items for Fall:
