Joe Mauer recently agreed to an eight-year contract extension with the Minnesota
Twins worth $184 million, making this the largest
contract in the history of Major League Baseball for a catcher. Mauer
was the first catcher ever to win the AL batting title and he did it three
times. His defense behind the plate has been just as impressive, as he has also won two Golden Glove awards. Mauer was honored with the title of
AL MVP for the 2009 baseball season. With accomplishments such as
these under his belt, it's easy to see why many believe Mauer is the best
catcher in baseball.
He
might be one of the highest paid players in the Major Leagues now, but Mauer
didn't always live the high life. To save money, he used to share a house with
his good friend and Twins' teammate, Justin Morneau. Luckily for us, Sports Illustrated went behind the scenes years ago to take a look at their bachelor pad. And before he made it
big, Mauer also utilized his "boy next door" good looks to bring in
some extra cash. He modeled for Perry Ellis in the 2004-2005 off season.
But life
is good for Mauer these days. He will grace the cover of Sony
Playstation's "MLB 10 The Show" and he will be the first catcher ever
to do so. Mauer's cover gig is one of the biggest endorsement deals that
he's had to date and those opportunities are sure to increase. He recently signed on with major marketing company, IMG, for help with his off-field
endeavors. It's safe to say that Mauer will retain his rock star staus in
Minnesota for many years to come.
Joe Mauer is Who's Haute.

Joe's also done some funny commercials for the Twins and the new Target Field:

By the way, that bachelor pad would be a step up from our house...
